I do a little bit of everything

I do a little bit of everything

I even save lives...

The day started like any other day. I had the day off and was walking my dog along the Boston water front. Off in the distance, I heard a "keeerplunk" and saw a man drop into the Boston Harbor. At first I thought this guy was a complete idiot who had found a way to slip into the wicked cold water. When I got closer I realized the guy was lying face down and there was a complete lack of swimming. I glanced around praying that there was any other soul that could rescue this man since  A) it was his fault for falling in B) it was cold and my day off and C) I’m a terrible swimmer. I looked around and the only guy around was a small, frail, 80-something-year-old man, so I knew he wasn't going to jump in. So I begrudgingly handed the old man my dog and proceeded to jump in. After I hit the freezing water, I was immediately filled with regret. I flipped the guy on his back, foam escaping from his mouth, and proceeded to swim/drag the guy to one of the sea-wall ladder's. When I got to the ladder, I realized some people were starting to come to the water’s edge, not to help my horrible attempt to swim and save this guy but to take pictures... that was kind of annoying (hope your Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat followers thought it was hilarious…). Eventually, two guys helped me lift this guy up  and on to shore. I emerged imagining there would be a crowd filled with cheers for me and thought a cop would come up to me and say “You’re a hero son and you saved this guys life". But, not a damn word. The Cops and EMT quickly resuscitated the guy, looked at me, and drove off. The small, frail old man handed me my dog and I slowly proceeded home, soaking wet, with no appreciation. But that day, I became more than just a Creative Director, I was a hero.
